10 ways to get rid of dandruff fast
Ginger is a natural ingredient that not only helps treat dandruff but also many other scalp infections. It has antiseptic properties which makes it ideal for the treatment of dandruff.
It increases the scalp circulation, resulting in the flow of blood to the scalp. Thus, it stimulates the hair follicles and encourages growth. Below are some ginger recipes you can use to get rid of dandruff.
Ginger hair Oil
Method: Extract the fresh juice from the ginger root and mix with about 1-2 tablespoon of coconut oil or olive oil (you can also use castor oil). Heat gently for about 1 minute. Apply gently to scalp and massage in circular motion for 10 minutes. Leave for 30 minutes and rinse off with normal water. Use a sulfate-free shampoo to wash hair. Repeat this twice a week (and thrice a week for severe dandruff condition)
Ginger hair rinse
Method: Extract the ginger juice and rosewater. Mix thoroughly and use it to rinse hair after wash. Repeat remedy 2-3 times a week.
We know you think its unbelievable but crushing the garlic releases an enzyme known as allicin, garlic’s primary active ingredient that’s responsible for so many of its awesome health benefits. Allicin is brimming with antibacterial and anti-fungal properties plus antioxidants that prevent infection and keep dandruff from forming.
Method: Crush about 5-6 cloves of garlic and allow it to sit for 10 minutes. Mix with honey to enhance anti-fungal properties and apply directly to your scalp. Leave for 10 minutes and wash hair with sulfate-free shampoo.
3. Rice water
Surprisingly, rice water is not just for hair growth alone but can be used in the treatment of dandruff. Fermented rice water can fight the fungi that causes dandruff (because fermented rice water alters the ph balance of the hair).
Method: Soak one cup of rice in two cups of water and allow it for about 10 minutes. Strain water and store in a vessel for about a day and use to rinse hair after wash.
4. Listerine mouthwash
Listerine® contains menthol, thymol, eucalyptol and methyl salicylate. These ingredients have antiseptic and anti-fungal properties, both of which are good for keeping the scalp in great condition. However, Methyl salicylate has an anti-inflammatory, cooling action wherever it’s applied.
Method: Mix 1/2 cup of Listerine with 1/2 cup of water and apply to towel dried, clean hair, pouring it as close to the scalp as possible. Rub it in with your fingertips and leave it for about 5 minutes. Rinse thoroughly.
5. Onion Juice
Onion juice is a traditional remedy for treating dandruff and hair loss problems. It kills the bacteria and eliminates the white flakes on the scalp. Onion juice also nourishes and strengthens the hair roots and stimulates the circulation of blood in the scalp. It is also a useful remedy to cure hair fall.
Method: Cut the onion into pieces and blend them. Massage the juice into your scalp. Leave it on for 30 minutes. Rinse it off with a sulfate-free shampoo.
6. Apple cidar vinegar (ACV)
Apple cider vinegar has antifungal and antibacterial properties that help maintain the health of your scalp. The vinegar kills any dandruff-causing fungi and effectively curbs the problem. Sometimes a pH imbalance is the root of a dandruff problem. ACV tackles this by balancing the pH of your scalp.
Method: Gently massage about 3 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar into your scalp. Leave the ACV on for about 10 minutes and then wash your hair with a sulfate-free shampoo.
Eggs are known to be rich in protein. But guess what, they also fight dandruff as well as add strength and shine to your hair.
Method: Mix one egg with 1 tablespoon of olive oil or castor oil. Apply mixture directly to scalp and leave for 30-45 minutes. Wash off with sulfate-free shampoo.
8. Green Tea
Green tea has antioxidant and antimicrobial properties that can help promote scalp health, while conditioning your hair. It also exfoliates the dry white flakes.
Method: Make a cup of green tea and mix 2-3 drops of either coconut oil or olive oil. Wet your hair under running water, and pour the green tea rinse through it. Massage it on to your scalp for about 5 minutes, before rinsing it off with a sulphate-free shampoo and conditioner.
9. Baking Soda
Baking soda is not only amazing for baking, but is also a powerful disinfectant when it comes to cleaning anything, including your scalp. it removes the excess oils produced by the scalp, washing off that extra grease that contributes to dandruff. Method: Mix 2 tablespoons of baking soda with water until you reach the perfect paste consistency. Part your hair in sections and apply a few drops of olive oil before spreading the paste on your scalp. Let it sit for 5–10 minutes. Thoroughly rinse the mixture out. Repeat this procedure once or twice a week.
